Stopped over my ex-student's restaurant in Sotkamo last evening. The restaurant is located in a fairly small, quite town with aging population. Residence here has a culture of not to eat out. So, restaurant business can be challenging in this local community (even if they sell local food).
My ex-student's and family run a Chinese restaurant. The business is only enough to get-by, and this year, the business has been extra-ordinarily quiet, even during holiday and travel peak seasons. I thought I would go by to buy some food to give them some support. Many shops, restaurant close in the area because of insufficient business. My student is also an immigrant, and they have no other relatives in this region. So, I really wanted to give some support during hard times even just little, would be better than nothing... This is a fairly challenging environment for business, and more so for busineses started by immigrants. Anyway, I wish them luck and hopefully things will go better in near future.
